A small creek runs throu the bottom, approximately 50m downslope from the plot. Chunks of coal are on the ground, scattered in the general area of the plot. The area is forested land managed by the WVDNR. There is a large coal mine located approximately .7 miles NW of the plot. Laurel Lake is down Rockhouse Run approximately .4 miles.;Wet cove forest with beech and hemlock overstory. There are signs of substantial deer activity, such as browse and scat. The herb diversity is very high. The plot is located on a steep NE facing midslope. There are several small sandstone cliff breaks in the plot.
Representativeness
The plot was placed to sample the hemlock community type, cove forest. Plot is similar to plot LALA.1 and other plots sampled at GARI and MONF.
